What is it??

This is a new type of “interactive” post we plan to have on our blog from time to time. Here’s how it works… we take a picture of something, and you have to guess what it is. Post your best guess as a comment in the blog, and we’ll let you know who the winner is. Pretty easy, huh?

Today’s post is a picture of something we bought in Budapest at the market down the street. Quite tasty. Can you guess what it is?

  1. I’m guessing it’s some kind of apple… perhaps baked… more importantly though, what’s the prize for the winner?

  2. Wait, wait… It’s a pepper kraut! (Sarah and I came up with that together, she can have the gift certificate, but I want the glory of posting)

  3. Allison wins! Yes, it’s a tasty “káposztával töltött almapaprika” which is a *pickled* pepper stuffed with sauerkraut. Austin and Sarah were close, but missed the crucial fact that it is pickled.Abby mentioned to me yesterday that the Russell people would probably be asking about some sort of prize. We briefly thought about mailing one of these tasty treats to the winner, but thought it might leak in the mail. We’ll think more about prizes in future installments of “What is it??”.

  4. I have to give Allison credit, that was a far more Hungarian answer than Sarah or I came up with. However, in our defense, the patented method for producing pepper krauts involves pickling, so I had assumed it was implied (patent here: http://www.google.com/patents?vid=USPAT5258198, photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kayakman/sets/72157603838356535/). In any case, it’s been great to hear about your adventures and I look forward to the next installment.
